I wish to thank you for your well-written humorous book "How to Get your Dog to do What you Want." It was and is a big help in the training of our little 3-mo old Mexican Shorthair puppy. I believe one thing that helped me most was realizing through your examples how "almost human' pets are. I understand my dogs and cats much now better thanks to you! In addition, getting to speak with you on the show gave us even more tips on training Candy. We can't thank you enough.

Her skin problems improved immediately but I also noticed improvement in her other ailments. She suffers from "Swollen Hocks Syndrome" which makes her hind legs swell up. I noticed if I missed her daily dose of Hug & kisses her hind legs would become swollen. She is now 6 years old and in good health considering most dogs with this syndrome have a life span of 3-5 years. I consider hugs & kisses a miracle and my dogs don't go a day without their daily dose, which they look forward to every morning.
This is Jana from Daly City, California. Thanks to you, I can keep my wonderful cat. I wanted to thank you for the information you gave me a few months ago that helped me manage my 1.5 year old female Maine Coon's clawing of furniture and rugs. The clawing is now down to about 5% of what it used to be, and I am grateful, because I don't think I could have kept her unless I found a way to handle this problem.

You told me that cats are very tuned in to odors. The way I understood it, you said that my cat is actually spreading her scent when she is clawing something. You also mentioned that she needs to have new smells in her environment for stimulation.

I keep coconut oil in my home, and I had a thought that perhaps I could use the scent of the coconut oil to communicate to her that I don't want her to scratch on the furniture or the rugs. So I spread the coconut oil in these areas, and she immediately avoided those areas completely. I used to have to spread more oil every couple of weeks, but now I don't spread any oil at all, and now she scratches her scratching post! Perhaps once a week, at most, I catch her clawing the rug a little. However, she does it much less aggressively than before, and I don't see any evidence on the rug of her clawing. I have not seen her claw the furniture at all since I used the coconut oil.

So, thank you, and I look forward to calling you next time I have a cat challenge.

It has been 4 weeks since his surgery and he is doing amazingly well. He is able to jump onto the sofa and parts of the kitty condo with ease and has totally ignored the 2 step stools I purchase and placed next to my bed and jumped onto the rattan nightstand instead.

Felix (his younger brother) was distant for a couple of weeks, never aggressive, but now they are back to sleeping together, licking each other's heads, and headbonking. Hopefully, soon Tux can chase Felix.

I hope my story gets to your listeners and helps them know that even if it comes to having a leg amputation our pets do OK and are still themselves and can lead a quality pet life.

Thanks again for everything you do!!!!
